Firstan installs first KODAK MAGNUS 800 Platesetter with APL

KODAK MAGNUS 800 Platesetter with Automatic Pallet Loader increases plate production by 400%

LA HULPE, BELGIUM, April 28—Firstan, a leading pharmaceutical packaging company in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire is the first company in the UK to install a KODAK MAGNUS 800 Platesetter with automatic pallet loader (APL) along with KODAK PRINERGY Workflow System. Firstan is a leading independent manufacturer of pharmaceutical packaging, folding and food cartons.  The company has recently moved into new premises – a purpose built 80,000sq ft with factory and office complex.
    John Hart, Studio Manager at Firstan says, “We bought the KODAK MAGNUS 800 Platesetter with APL through MayDay Graphics. The dealer has done a great job in supporting our requirement.  The MAGNUS 800 Platesetter with the new automatic pallet loader can take 600 plates in one load. We are experiencing exceptional time savings. In the past we would have to unpack cassettes containing 30-50 plates which proved very time consuming. With this new machine the loader takes 600 plates at a time all interleaved and ready to use. This has helped us increase our productivity to unique levels. From eleven plates an hour on our previous equipment, we are now producing forty two plates per hour and using around 1200 plates per month. This is an amazing leap in productivity and efficiency and has completely changed the way we work in our pre-press department.”

Building a new factory has given Firstan the opportunity to expand and invest in new machinery. “Kodak's new platesetter is the perfect purchase for us and serves our purpose to achieve fast and efficient plate production,” continues John Hart. “We run four MITSUBISHI 6-colour presses and feed them 24/7.  We store plates for repeats but with the installation of the KODAK MAGNUS 800 Platesetter we now have the ability to make a new plate in 4 minutes – that is exceptional timing.”
 
Firstan is also using KODAK PRINERGY Workflow System for all file transfer and approvals. Steve Lindsay, Account Manager explains the benefits of using the PRINERGY Workflow System with the MAGNUS Platesetter. “The process is extremely easy and very fast. Files are transferred, edited and approved within minutes allowing us to see every step of the procedure at a glance.”
