Five Castles Press Select PRO-T Plates

Well known Suffolk printer, Ipswich based Five Castles Press recently moved their choice of printing plates from a manufacturer who claimed they were chemistry free to Fujifilm and their Brillia HD PRO-T plates that are totally chemistry free, also water and of course processor free.

After experiencing problems with the previous plates regarding production quality that was affecting print output and their unconvincing technical and customer support they decided to re-visit Fujifilm’s processless PRO-T offering.

Having been a long-term user of Fuji’s Brillia HD LH-PJE plates in the past, supplied by Mayday Graphic Products, Fujifilm were there first port of call, a decision based on the new plate technology they’d developed for their processless PRO-T plate range.

Fives Castles, Studio Manager, James Gorniak said: "We asked Fujifilm to demonstrate its Pro-T plate and we were happy with the quality.

"It has a longer life than the other plate we tested and is easier to visually check for errors after the imaging process has taken place. It has enabled us to make a big saving on chemicals and on the studio side we can run the plates more quickly because there is no processor to go through. There is also a slight reduction in make-ready time."

Another reason for Five Castle Press to select processless plates over processed plates is the fact that, the PRO-T plate produces a low 18g of CO2 per square metre of press-ready plate compared to 246g for a processed one.

Additionally using the PRO-T plates they now benefit from; ultra-fast plate making, and the fact that there is no processor or finishing unit required means Five Castles now has none of the associated chemicals or waste to dispose of.

Mayday Graphic Products, managing Director, Graham Timsom, said, "its nice for Mayday to be working closely with such a progressive and forward thinking printer as Five Castles Press, whom we've been supplying for many years, especially one who have close links with fine art printing."
